INCLINING EXPERIMENT

 INCLINING EXPERIMENT

WHAT IS INCLINING EXPERIMENT?

The initial metacentric height is determined by inclining experiment. after the ship is fully build or major changes in structure must do inclining experiment.

WHAT IS METACENTRIC HEIGHT?

When a ship is heels by an angle the center of buoyancy and center of gravity will moves laterally. if we draw the imaginary vertical line from, the new center of buoyancy it will cut the original vertical line that point is called metacenter,
The distance between center of gravity G and metacenter is called metacentric height,

INCLINING EXPERIMENT

  •  place the special tool name STABILOGRAPH, placed the tool in forward and aft of the ship,
  • four masses are placed in the each two will placed port and aft sides,
  •  masses should be placed away from the center line.
  • masses should moved one by one to port sides from stbd side, now move the masses from stbd side to port side one by one , finely placed two masses each sides,
  • all movement of masses should be recorded by stabilograph , and average of all readings determine as metacentric height.
  • inclining experiment carried by empty ship
  • and calm weather
  • draught and density of water should be noted
  • ropes should be slacken
  • all ship tanks should be empty
