FREE SURFACE EFFECT

FREE SURFACE EFFECT Definition of free surface effect?     When a tank or compartment partially filled with liquid, when a ship is inclined. liquid will moves along with ship's inclined  direction. which will reduce the stability of the ship. How to reduce free surface effect : Swash bulkheads  Pocketing Surface permeability Sluice valves  Swash bulkheads This types of bulkheads give some additional strength, Which are longitudinal  bulkheads which will restrict the flow of liquid when ship is  inclined   Pocketing  fill the tank fully which will reduce the free surface effect Surface permeability The object such as machineries, engine and piping systems prevent the moving water  shifting of wedge, these reducing the free surface effect. Sluice valves  The large slack tanks are cross connected with sluice valves, it will reduce  the flow of the liquid so that it will reduce free surface effect.

ISPS CODE : SOLAS CHAPTER 11.2 SAFETY MEASURE ENHANCE TO MARITIME SECURITY

Safety measures enhance to maritime security ISPS code Objectives of Ism code :  To discover the security threats and take preventive action against the security threats. And proper preventive measures are placed  Early and efficiently collecting the security level information, and share  the security information. Three levels of ism code  Level 1:  Minimum appropriate preventive security measures for all the time. Level 2:  Additional protective preventive security measures for period of time. Level 3:   Level 3 is High level protective preventive security measures for limited time. Level 1:  Deck over lightings. Crew photo identification  Visitors should be identified Regular patrolling will carried out. rooms which is not in use should be closed and locked by key. Certain area should be closed and locked by key Level 2   In additional to level 1 Oscillation search will carried out. Shore Delivery should be checked properly. Visitors will strictly assist. Cargo seals should be chec

INCLINING EXPERIMENT

INCLINING EXPERIMENT    WHAT IS INCLINING EXPERIMENT? The initial metacentric height is determined by inclining experiment. after the ship is fully build or major changes in structure must do inclining experiment. WHAT IS METACENTRIC HEIGHT? When a ship is heels by an angle the center of buoyancy and center of gravity will moves laterally. if we draw the imaginary vertical line from, the new center of buoyancy it will cut the original vertical line that point is called metacenter , The distance between center of gravity G and metacenter is called metacentric height, INCLINING EXPERIMENT    place the special tool name STABILOGRAPH, placed the tool in forward and aft of the ship, four masses are placed in the each two will placed port and aft sides,  masses should be placed away from the center line. masses should moved one by one to port sides from stbd side, now move the masses from stbd side to port side one by one , finely placed two masses each sides, all movement of masses should
